- الفصل الحادي عشر من الكتاب تحت عنوان "" تأثير العرب"" للمؤلف نورمان بنت، من صفحة 210-227، يتطرق الفصل إلى الدور البارز الذي اضطلع به العرب في تنشيط حركة التجارة في شرق أفريقيا في القرن الثامن عشر وتأمين الطرق البرية التي كانت محفوفة بالمخاطر،وقد كانوا يتاجروب في العاج بشكل رئيسي، وتطرق كذلك لدور السلطان سعيد بن سلطان -سلطان عمان وزنجبار- في تنشيط زراعة القرنفل في زنجبار وبمبا وجعلها رافدا اقتصاديا مهما وتوثيق الصلات التجارية مع التجار الهنود والأمريكا
